Who We Are

MISSION STATEMENT

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

The American Legion is incorporated by act of Congress and is organized into local Posts, which, for purposes of coordination and administration, are grouped into Departments. The Department of Arizona HQ is located in Phoenix.

The Post is the combat unit of The American Legion. Depending upon its ability to absorb American Legion policies and properly interpret them to the local people and to successfully carry out unselfish activities for the community, the state and the nation, our organization will stand or fall.

POST 131 PURPOSE

To provide a “Service” to our veterans, their families, and the communities. The American Legion’s success rests on its understanding that the fight for veteran’s rights – past, present or future – is never-ending. While our purposes may remain unchanged, our capabilities must not. The environment is changing and we must stay in front of change to be this nation’s leading advocate for veterans.

For continued success, we must provide first-rate service to our veterans throughout the 21st century, the basis for this blueprint is the Preamble to the Constitution of The American Legion. This declaration reaffirmed the principles on which our great organization was developed.

Important for Post 131 is that the meeting place will provide the service mentioned above in a culture of positive attitude and brotherhood to all present. This culture will reflect those rights enumerated in our U.S. Constitution and that no one’s freedoms will be violated.

A computer is being provided so that emails and other internet functions of daily life can be accomplished within the post.  Wireless Internet (secured) is available for those who wish to bring their own laptops.  Check with the Adjutant in the office for the wireless “key” code.

The Post is a non-smoking Post and was awarded a Arizonans Concerned About Smoking Health Leadership Award for our efforts.
